Workouts First? Michelle Obama Shares Clever Trick For Achieving Work-Life Balance
Any public figure has demanding responsibilities. So, we can only imagine how difficult it is for any presidential couple to balance commitments and a family life. But Barack and Michelle Obama have a secret as to how to do it.
On bringing up children
For Michelle Obama, one of the most challenging things was to raise her daughters, Sasha and Malia. What she strives to do is to instill kindness, compassion, and independence in them while also giving them an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. The former first lady believes that parents should not be overprotective to prepare kids for life.
We have to raise our children to be the adults that we want them to be, and that starts young. You can’t be so afraid that life will break them that you don’t prepare them for life.
On making time for date nights
Another challenging thing was to put family first. Michelle reveals that the key to good relationships is to prioritize family. Every year, she started by adding date nights, vacations, family events, and even workouts first. And only then, she scheduled work. As Obama explains:
It's a different approach than many take, with dinners and workouts scheduled on days when there aren't work commitments.
That is why, the former POTUS never missed out important family events, dinners, and parent-teacher conferences. Isn’t it an effective planning?
Barack Obama also carved out a lot of time for his family. He tried to get back home at 6:30 to have dinner and listen to how his girls had spent a day. And when he still had things to do in the evening, he returned to the Oval Office only after having proper time with his ladies.
