Sure, the life of an actress can look glamorous and fabulous from the outside, but these ladies have to go through a lot of disappointment on their way to the top.

For example, you will find a role you desperately want and think you deserve, only for the producers to go another way. Going through this over and over again isn't pretty. Jennifer Lawrence recently dished on some personal experiences in that regard.

The role that 'devastated' her

While speaking to radio host Howard Stern recently, Lawrence revealed that one of her most heartbreaking losses was for the part of Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. The role went to actress Mia Wasikowska.

The one thing that really killed me, the only time I've ever been truly devastated by losing an audition was at Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. That one devastated me and, [Mia] was perfect and amazing and I couldn't have had a British accent.

Another loss she recounted was that of the character of Bella Swan in Twilight. She told Stern:

I didn't really know what it was. When you audition, when you're a run-of-the-mill actor - we're all auditioning for all sorts of things - you just get like five pages and they're like, 'Act monkey!' When it came out, I was like hot damn! Woah!

Losing an acting role also affected her friendship with Emma Stone at one point. Lawrence revealed that Stone once landed a role she (Lawrence) wanted.

Emma Stone and I actually had this conversation once because we used to always audition for the same thing, which now seems silly because our careers are so different...she got one thing that I was dying for.

Well, it's good to know that this did not affect their friendship. Today, both ladies are fantastic actresses, each with her own massive fan base. We bet there isn't any room or reason for jealousy anymore.

Other actors/actresses that lost out on major roles

1. Emma Stone - Heroes

Stone once revealed that she had a meltdown when she lost a role to Hayden Panettiere for the TV show Heroes.

2. Dwayne Johnson - Jack Reacher

In a Tweet, The Rock told a fan that he lost out on the title character in Jack Reacher film to Tim Cruise. "[It] was great motivation for me to always stay hungry," he said.

3. Mindy Kaling - Bridesmaids

She auditioned for the role of Maya Rudolph in the hit movie, but she did not get it. "That was one that was a heartbreaker," she told E! News.

4. Matthew McConaughey - Titanic

He once told Playboy Magazine that he enjoyed auditioning for the part, and he thought it was a fantastic opportunity at the time, but the producers went with Leonardo DiCaprio instead.

5. Amy Schumer - Girls

Schumer desperately wanted the role of Shoshanna in HBO's Girls. Even though she was not the top choice for the part, actress Lena Dunham revealed that when she left the audition, everyone in the room thought Schumer definitely deserved her own show. She did land a guest spot on the series later on, though.

So, the next time you want to get a little bit envious about how luxurious the life of your favorite actor is, you may want to consider if you're willing to go through so many heartbreaks and disappointment before getting that breakout gig.
