U.S. Olympian Deletes Selfie With Ivanka Trump Due To The Hate

The U.S. president's daughter and adviser paid a visit to the Olympic Games, which she called "so incredibly inspiring". She then expressed her gratitude for being given a chance to watch the competition as well as "be here with our allies in South Korea."
Ivanka spent part of her day watching the U.S. team compete in the bobsleigh competition after which she met with athletes, including Team USA silver medalist Lauren Gibbs, who let the president’s daughter taste the feel of what is like to be an Olympic medalist by placing the silver medal around her neck.
Lauren Gibbs didn’t miss her chance of taking a selfie with Ivanka, but after posting it on her social media account, the silver medalist received a lot of negative feedback.
Gibbs shared the picture with a message:
It’s important that we don’t have to agree on everything to get along, be civil to each other and enjoy each other’s company.
Her post created an avalanche of hate. The bobsledder tried to respond at first:
it is funny because the people you hate so much treated me with more respect than you have. I have two degrees and the ability to think for myself.

But then, she decided to eventually delete the photo. She took to Twitter to explain her decision:
I deleted (by choice) the photo because I was tired of reading the hate being thrown back and forth. Whether you hate me for posting or hate me for taking it down… you are the same… hate from either side is hate.

People commented on her choice:
No! Don’t delete. PLEASE! Stand for what you believe. Don’t give into hate. If you believe in love and friendship then don’t let ANYONE choose your friends but YOU! Congratulations!!!! #MyOlympian #NoHate

It makes me sad that people made you feel that uncomfortable for posting a picture with our current president's child. That should not be so taboo!

This makes me so sad that there is this much hate against you at a time when you should be grinning ear to ear with your accomplishments!! People who can hate behind a computer screen are not worth worrying about! Enjoy your success and safe travels home! #teamUSA

Gibbs was quite infatuated with taking selfies during the Olympics. She shares photos with a history-maker figure skater Adam Rippon and freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy.
