The former US President is now using his abundant free time to make a difference and give back to the community. And his many fans are proud.
What Michelle and Barack Obama have been up to
Since leaving office, the former POTUS and FLOTUS have decided to focus their time on the empowerment of the youths. Even though he is no longer the leader of the free world, Barack clearly still cares about the next generation and he is using his platform to reach out and help the children.
For example, in September, Obama surprised some students at McKinley Tech High School in Washington DC on the first day of the school year. He shared a tweet of the experience, describing them as "inspiring young minds."

For Halloween, Michelle Obama was joined by Prince Harry as they both paid a surprise visit to some high schoolers at the Hyde Park Academy in Chicago.

And for Christmas
This time around, Barack Obama was bearing gifts during a surprise visit to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. According to Washington Post, there were approximately 50 students who got to hang out with the former president.
Obama was wearing a leather jacket, a Santa hat and carrying a big bag of goodies. Children screamed in delight and excitement as soon as they spotted him. They bounced up and down, all eagerly hoping to shake his hand.
The video below of the sweet moment was recorded by Obama's communications director, Katie Hill, and was posted on her Twitter page.

Another picture of Obama sitting with all the children was shared by the former US president himself on his social media. He was still in his Santa character - leather jacket and Santa hat.

Washington Post reported that he spent about half an hour with the kids and gave them the presents he brought.
They may no longer be the First Family, but it's quite evident that the Obamas are dedicated to serving their country regardless.
