Prince William And Kate Middleton Visit The National Paralympic Basketball Team And Try To Net The Ball While Being In A Wheelchair

Prince William decided to try his hand at basketball in a wheelchair. Along with his wife Kate, he visited the Copper Boxing sports complex in London during the last public appearance for the Duchess of Cambridge before the maternity leave.

Prince William and Kate Middleton were invited to the event held by SportsAid, a national charity that helps to train the future generations of the athletes.

The royal family watched the wheelchair basketball game and talked to the teams. Among the basketball players, the couple also met television presenter Ade Adepitan – the Bronze Olympic Champion at Athens in 2004.

William and Kate discussed with athletes their future participation in the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April. The prince wondered whether it was difficult to play basketball in the wheelchair, and the national team provided him with such a possibility.

William joined their training and managed to impress the players when he scored the ball from the third attempt.

The prince also interested if the players’ hands hurt when the wheelchairs into smash into each other, and Paralympian Gregg Warburton, who has only two fingers left on his hand, joked:

Yeah, I had five when I started.

The players and the royal family were in a great mood and spent amazing time sharing their experience.

Charity program

Every year, SportsAid provides over 1,000 beginning athletes with the necessary resources for training and developing their skills. The charity program also supports profession sportsmen in mental therapy as well as organizes the appropriate medication and treatment if necessary.

The royal family did a great job supporting the team before the Commonwealth Games, and Prince William definitely inspired the players for bringing the victory back home.
