Recently, Michelle Obama joined the birthday-special episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to celebrate the 60th birthday of the legendary TV host. It was the former First Lady's first TV appearance since she and husband Barack Obama handed over their reigns to Donald and Melania Trump.

And on the day that interview aired, Michelle Obama posted a lovely behind-the-scenes photo of herself and Ellen, accompanied with a sweet message.

Ellen, you make 60 look so good,” wrote Mrs. Obama. “Congratulations on yet another milestone.

Not only did she congratulate the TV host on her birthday, but she also thanked Ellen for the incredible work she does on a daily basis.

You make us all laugh so much, but you also warm our hearts. Thanks to you, the world is a more loving, welcoming, and joyous place for all of our children. And for that, @BarackObama and I couldn’t be prouder to call you our friend.

And they truly are friends. Over the years of Barack Obama's presidency, his wife appeared on Ellen more than once.

And every single time, the two women had a lot of fun together: from a controversial push-up challenge they still argue about to funny dances to joyful shopping at CVS.

People on social media joined in and wrote their sweet wishes to the birthday girl.

Michelle's new life

During the latest show, Ellen and her guest of honor talked a bit about Michelle's post-White House routine and her new home. They also recalled that awkward moment when the Obamas greeted Donald and Melania Trump at the White House on the inauguration day, and Melania gave Michelle a large gift box.

And then, finally, Mrs. Obama presented the birthday girl with several gifts. You can watch the entire interaction in the short video below.

It is noteworthy, that just a few week prior to Ellen's jubilee, Michelle Obama celebrated her 54th birthday. She received tons of sweet and touching congratulations from both celebrities and regular people, and Ellen DeGeneres was also on the list.
