The terrifying word 'cancer' is a part of Matt Damon's life for many years now. His father, Kent Damon, reportedly has multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer that is very difficult to treat. For the last few years, the 75-year-old man was in remission. However, it looks like the disease is back again in full force.

In October, The Martian star was supposed to make an honor appearance at the BAFTA ceremony to collect the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence. However, his appearance was canceled at the last moment due to a “family emergency,” which apparently involved his dad, reports Daily Mail.

Later, the actor addressed his father's health issues in an interview with Extra:

It's been a slow unfolding; my dad's sick, so that's a process we're going through.

The actor seems to be so devastated by his dad's health problems that he is willing to accept any kind of help, including other people's prayers. He said:

We’ll take any prayers you got, so throw ’em up there.

We can only imagine how hard it must be for the 47-year-old actor to see his beloved father struggling to fight the insidious disease. But while trying to help his dad win the battle against cancer, Matt somehow manages to continue to work on his new project – the sci-fi drama Downsizing, directed by Alexander Payne. The film hits the theaters on December 22, 2017.
