Jimmy and Molly got married in 2013 and are raising two common kids: a lovely 3-year-old girl Jane and her sweet little brother Billy, who was born in April 2017. It was the latter kid who made the famous host cry in front of the cameras while sharing the emotional news with the entire country.

Little Billy was born with a serious heart disease and had to undergo an open-heart surgery when he was just three days old. After that, Kimmel decided to talk on his show about Billy's health issues and the problems of other children he and his wife saw in the hospitals.

In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel's wife Molly recalled that night:

I couldn't believe the strength that it took to tell that story a week after it happened. He didn't have to do that. Our family has excellent health care; he had nothing to gain from that. He did it for the other people whom we met in that hospital.

Of course, there were those who thanked the celebrity couple for raising awareness about the problem, and there were those who accused them of “politicizing” their son's health issues.

But for the spouses, it was just a personal story they shared with people.

Shortly after little Billy had the second of several surgeries he needs, Molly posted one more emotional message on Twitter.

Being famous public figures, Jimmy Kimmel and Molly McNearney have a significant influence on the audience. And it is great to see them trying to use that power to make our world a better place.
