What's The Big Deal About Titanic?

There have been a lot of movies about lovers, and love has been a central theme in many plays and novels, but "Titanic" stands apart from them all.

Why is it so iconic? Here are 3 reasons:

1. It's based off an actual historical event

While the story of Rose and Jack might not be real, the Titanic actually was. And yes, the 52,310 ton, luxury cruise ship was termed "unsinkable" until  it hit an iceberg. This fact alone is intriguing enough that if you haven't seen the movie, now you know you just have to.

2. Jack's chivalry will make you swoon

Jack wasn't born with class, but he sure exudes it throughout the movie almost in every scene with Rose. He saves Rose's life, attends fancy parties with her and through it all, he's a gentleman. He's not perfect, but guys today could learn a thing or two from him.

3. It's chock-full of exhilarating and epic moments

You've probably seen the meme of Jack holding Rose close to the front of the ship, but there are other moments such as when the ship turns vertical that makes this movie about more than just a typical love story.

If you're still not convinced, take a look at this list of achievements racked up by "Titanic."

List of Accolades Received by "Titanic"

In spite of lukewarm reviews, "Titanic" is still the most profitable film in cinemas worldwide since its release in 1997. It also launched the careers of the leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who have gone on to major success since then.

Among its list of awards are 11 Oscars, the Amanda Award for Best Foreign Feature Film, 4 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, 2 Chicago Film Critics Awards, and 2 Golden Globe Awards, to name a few.

Suffice it to say, "Titanic" is a classic and has been a delight to viewers all over the world.

The Return of "Titanic"

While scenes from "Titanic" have never left our minds and hearts, this return of the movie to theaters gives us a second chance to relive it on the big screen.

In a promo video, the movie's director, James Cameron said, "It's like seeing it for the first time."

And we definitely can't wait to watch it.
