Emilia Clarke Gets Real About Love: “There Is ‘The One’ For Particular Parts Of Your Life”

Emilia Clarke woke up being a world-famous star the day HBO aired its series Game of Thrones back in 2011. And while she is constantly surrounded by the cameras, there is still so much more we do not know about the woman who played the mother of dragons.

Coming to prominence

Before she started playing Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones, only a few people knew about Emilia Clarke as an actress. She appeared in one episode of British soap opera Doctors and took part in a number of stage productions. But playing a silver-haired Targaryen girl was a real breakthrough for the young actress.

In the next few years, Emilia made an impressive progress in her acting career. She starred in a number of Hollywood films, including Alan Taylor's Terminator Genisys (2015) and Thea Sharrock's epic romance Me Before You (2016). At the same time, she worked on developing and exploring the personality of her Game of Thrones' character and figured out a few things about her own life.

On stopping to believe in Prince Charming

While her heroine, Daenerys Targaryen, seems to finally find the love of her life, it is a bit more complicated for Emilia herself.

In a recent interview with the Harper's Bazaar magazine, the actress admitted that she does not believe in Prince Charming anymore. Her previous experience made Clarke look at romantic relationships from a bit more realistic perspective. Eventually, she came to realize that there is no reason in looking for Prince Charming.

There is ‘the one’ for particular parts of your life - you change as you get older. So when I was in my teens, there was ‘the one’ for my teens, for sure, and then, you know, there’s ‘the one’ for the next time of your life. There’s this Buddhist philosophy that says you can only really understand yourself through your interactions with other people.

Her sudden popularity surely did not make it easier for the 31-year-old actress to find her love and soulmate. In the same interview, Clarke said that she used to second-guess everyone in her life.

I do that in life anyway, but especially with fame and becoming successful, and strangers knowing you more than your circle of friends, I would worry about what people thought of me.

But after a while, the young woman seemed to make peace with her new reality and, eventually, reached the point where she could say, “You know what? I’m okay.”

This philosophy of hers is quite interesting, isn't it? However, we cannot say if it works for her since the personal life of Emilia Clarke remains a complete mystery.

What we do know is that the ambitious actress is not going to settle down after the final episode of Game of Thrones. Her most recent works are the Star Wars spin-off Solo and Phillip Noyce’s thriller Above Suspicion.
