'Moonstruck' Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

Date December 14, 2017

Thirty years ago, in December of 1987, we watched the magnificent Cher and her charming co-star Nicolas Cage falling badly for each other on the screen for the very first time. And millions of people across the globe held their breath as they watched how Cher's character Loretta was falling for her fiance's little brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage) and where that feeling would lead her.

Moonstruck has everything that a good story should have: funny interactions and thoughtful dialogues, hilarious scenes, and sad moments that make you cry even if you don't want to. And, of course, there is that happy ending we all wait for every time we watch this movie.

People did not forget about the upcoming anniversary and rushed to social media to congratulate the actors and everyone who worked on the film.

Writer and TV host Erin Coughlin called Moonstruck an “NYC modern day Cinderella” story.

A user who goes by Bookitty and calls herself a “diehard Cher fan,” wrote that it was the only film she has seen “over 400 times.”

Many other people also shared their memories and impression on one of the most emotional and inspirational love stories made in Hollywood.

In celebration of the film's milestone anniversary, we've picked four of the most memorable scenes from Moonstruck.

Do you remember how it all started with Johnny ruining his suit in order to convince Loretta to marry him?

Or how “thrilled” Loretta's dad was to hear the news about the upcoming wedding?

And, of course, that moment when already engaged Loretta finally meets her true destiny – Ronny.

And our favorite – the moment of Ronny's touching proposal.

For the duo of Nicolas Cage and Cher, Moonstruck was just as iconic as was Pretty Woman for Richard Gere and Julia Roberts or Titanic for Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The film received numerous awards, including three Oscars and two Golden Globes. And even though it has been thirty years since the day of its premiere, Moonstruck is still loved by millions of people worldwide.
