The captivating black and white photographs made by Jason M. Peterson, a Chicago-based photographer, have brought him exceptional renown. His artistic works, capturing the soul of each scene he photographs, have attracted more than a million subscribers on Instagram, a number usually only reached by celebrities.
As a manager at Havas North America, Peterson worked on some of the advertising projects that have influenced his work. He has a unique ability to tell a story and stir emotion through monochromatic shots.
It is likely that photography, a passion he has cultivated since the age of 13, has helped to guide his journey through the world of visual advertising. Jason has been a photographer for most of his life, but it's only in the past 5 years that he has shared his work with a wider audience.
A quick look at his Instagram account will help you to understand why so many people are following his photographic journey. Jason Peterson works with shadows, angles, and lines to draw unique shapes in his compositions.
Just as comfortable in an urban setting as in a natural setting, the photographer is able to balance any scene, be it aerial photographs or those taken at a concert.
For me, my photos are not black and white at all. I try to capture the human emotion, to help the viewer feel something. Black and white helps to focus on that emotion; color doesn't always allow you to see this feeling.
And if he can encourage his fans to get away from the screen, look around and notice the little things in their environment then he has accomplished his goal.
