Melania Trump Wanted To Be Like Famous Italian Actress And International Sex Symbol Sophia Loren
For people who knew Melania when she was young, her story of leaving Slovenia and marrying Donald Trump sounds like a real-life fairytale.
But unlike Jackie Kennedy who met her husband when he was already a congressman, Melania didn’t ever think she was signing on to be the first lady when she met Donald Trump in 1998, at a party during New York Fashion Week.
Donald was 52, Melania – 28. She was a shy brunette and aspiring model, and he was a brash and wealthy businessman.
Years earlier, while modeling in Paris, Melania was living with a Swedish-born model Victoria Silvstedt in an apartment not far from Notre Dame Cathedral.
Victoria remembers Melania as a “the perfect roommate,” saying she was “clean, neat, and domestic.”
Silvstedt also recalls how the future first lady idolized Italian actress and international sex symbol Sophia Loren.
I remember back then, she was telling me how ‘one day I would like to be like Sophia Loren’. Obviously, she was her style icon.
The two models moved to New York where Silvstedt became Playboy's “Playmate of the Year” in 1997 and the face of Guess Jeans and Melania married Donald Trump.
Silvstedt has been following news about her old roommate and thinks Melania is doing "a great job” as the first lady.
Melania was previously compared to Sophia Loren by no other than Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana. He posted a collage of photos of Melania Trump and the Italian screen legend on Instagram, which he captured with:
@flotus and #SophiaLoren spot the difference.
Can you see the resemblance?
