50-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth To Her Own Grandson After Offering To Be A Surrogate For Her Son And Daughter-In-Law

When 29-years old Kayla Jones got married in 2012, she knew that she wouldn’t be able to carry a child, so the couple hoped to use the help of a surrogate in this matter. Never Kayla expected that a woman, who will carry her baby, will be her own mother-in-law.
Kayla underwent a partial hysterectomy when she was a teenager which broke her hopes to carry a child in future. She and her husband wanted a biological baby so they turned to surrogacy. But several options didn’t work, so Kayla had no choice than taking her mother-in-law, Patty Resecker’s offer.
Kayla shared her story on LoveWhatMatters, saying:
My mother-in-law always joked about being our surrogate. After a couple of our surrogate options did not work out, we started to take my mother-in-law more seriously.
Naturally, the idea seemed crazy, but after making a thorough research about the concept, she convinced herself and her husband that it can actually work. The couple and 50-year-old Patty began some tests to see if Patty was capable of being a surrogate - and it turns out she was.
Patty was successfully impregnated using the IVF process in May 2017, and after seven months the baby Kross Allen Jones entered this world.
When Patty was asked how she felt to serve as a surrogate, she said she felt “blessed.”
I’ve recently had the privilege of doing one of the most rewarding things: to carry my own grandchild for my son and daughter-in-law. This is something that has blessed not only me and my family, but also Kayla’s family. A child is a lifetime commitment and I knew there weren’t two more deserving people than them. To see them with Kross and see the parents they’re already becoming thrills my soul.
Although the idea of using a family member as a surrogate sounds controversial, WebMD says it’s more manageable. While the American Society for Reproductive Medicine generally disfavors surrogacy if a child would carry the same genes as a child born of incest between close relatives, Kayla and Patty’s situation is fine as the baby was created via IVF.
