 AFI greatest actors and actresses

AFI is the American Film Insitute, an organization that honors the heritage of the motion picture arts in the US. This renowned institute has come up with a list of 50 Hollywood legends, 25 actors, and 25 actresses. This was done at a television event called AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars where the other 50 were contemporary stars who presented the awards.

To qualify for the list, actor or actress had to have started before the year 1950. However, to be on the list, one didn't have to be American, as there are 13 stars born outside of the US. Interestingly, eight stars were born in New York City.
