There’s no person that doesn’t know who Dame Judi Dench is, or, at least, hasn’t seen her starring in the most famous movies in Hollywood. She is the one who played the role of M, the boss of James Bond, in two James Bond movies. What is more, this famous actress starred as Queen Victoria in Mrs. Brown teleplay.
However, all the success didn’t save her from losing the love of her life, her husband Michael Williams. He passed away in January 2001. Back then, the actor was 65. And at this age, the life was taken from him by lung cancer. It was a horrible tragedy for his family and for the whole movie industry.
Together with Dame Judi, they had a beautiful daughter, Finty Williams. She grew up and decided to be an actress, like her parents.
The marriage of Dame Judi Dench and Michael Williams lasted for 30 years. And it took her more than 5 years to feel she can be with someone else again. However, the time came, despite the fact Dench wasn't that sure about entering a new relationship. In one of her interviews, she admitted:
I wasn't even prepared to be ready for it... It was very gradual and grown up. We got together, in a way, through the animals. It's just wonderful.
The story of their acquaintance is more than fate. Judi Dench was invited to open a squirrel sanctuary run by David Mills. And sooner than she expected, she fell in love with this 76-year-old conservationist. She enjoyed their relationship to the fullest. He made her laugh, and it was invaluable for the actress.
Still, there was no chance they would get married. Both of them were comfortable with the way things were. She said:
We are much too independent.
The Queen Victoria star preferred not to call David Mills her partner. Here’s what she said:
I don’t know what the word is. I loathe ‘partner’ – I loathe all the words. I just say, "This is David," and he says, "This is Judi."
Isn’t it wonderful that people of such an age manage to find love again and live their lives to the fullest?
