Prince William Asked 'The X Factor' Host For A Hug

Date January 26, 2018

One would think that if you have a royal blood, you can get away with pretty much anything. But little do they know that the royal book of etiquette might be longer than the Amazon River. Though, it didn’t stop Prince William from requesting a hug from 'The X Factor' host Dermot O’Leary.

The man hug

Is it ok for men to hug each other? There have been so many changes in the etiquette, largely influenced by the new wave of feminism, but what kind of rules apply for men, especially concerning such an intimate thing as a hug?

A handshake is an acceptable way for men to greet each other, especially if it is their first meeting. A hug comes in to play after reaching a certain level of familiarity. Some men will not accept a hug of any kind, but there are ways to do them, which will still be considered as ‘manly’. Here’s how to hug a man:

The extraordinary request

So, you know how to do a proper male hug, let’s talk about the royal incident. Dermot O’Leary is a popular TV presenter, mostly know for hosting 'The X Factor', and Prince William, well, we all know who Prince William is.

When Dermot was attending the 2017 Pride of Britain Awards along with Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh, he received an unusual request from Prince William, who, according to the TV presenter, said:

You know what I need? I need a Dermot Hug.

Which he, of course, received. Dermot mentioned that Prince William commented on how good it was and how important it is to hug. O’Leary thinks that Duke of Cambridge probably watches 'The X Factor', where the host has been giving his famous hugs to console the contestants who failed.

If Prince William thinks that hugging is an important skill, then we might need to learn the proper way to do it. And let’s be honest, sometimes, a good hug is all we need to feel better.
