Should Princess Camilla Be Wearing Tiaras Like The Late Diana Did?

Queen Elizabeth II hosted the Annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December of 2017. This is the highlight of the ambassadorial year in the United Kingdom. Attendance usually sits at about 100 people and is strictly by invitation.

There gathered representatives of countries with diplomatic missions in the UK. Members of the Royal Family were also in attendance. Present were HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and Princess Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles. The event was held at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Camilla wore a huge tiara

One thing that stood out at the event was the tiara that was worn by Princess Camilla. The Greville tiara was on loan from the collection of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Also known as the Boucheron Honeycomb tiara, this massive headpiece was owned by the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, before being passed down to Queen Elizabeth II.

This is not the first time that the Duchess of Cornwall has appeared in public wearing the tiara. It happens to be one of her favorite loaners from Her Majesty’s collection.

Princess Camilla wore it in 2007 to the Commonwealth Heads of Government dinner in Uganda and more recently, in 2013, to the Heads of Government dinner in Sri Lanka.

Despite the fact that the Princess has been integrated into the Royal Family, many observers are uncomfortable with her inclusion. It becomes even more obvious when she makes appearances with Prince Charles.

For those who still nurse fond memories of the late Princess Diana, it is considered a major slight that Princess Camilla even attempts to assume the position that the beloved Diana once occupied. And Princess Camilla wearing this particular tiara got some people irked.

What even got more people talking was the sheer size of the tiara in comparison to others that were worn by royals. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, who was also at the event, wore the Lover’s Knot tiara. In addition, this piece happens to be one of Princess Diana’s favorites.

However, Princess Camilla’s tiara dwarfed that worn by Princess Kate. And people are asking, is that right? The Greville tiara is almost as large as a crown, and there are speculations that Princess Camilla may be making a silent statement by wearing it on this important occasion.

Prince Charles will be King, but Camilla is a reluctant Queen

The official wedding announcement for Prince Charles and Princess Camilla read:

It is intended that Mrs. Parker Bowles should use the title HRH the Princess Consort when the Prince of Wales accedes to the throne.

In conclusion, sources close to the crown suggested in July last year that Princess Camilla was not keen on becoming Queen. Whether her position is certain or not is hanging in the air. And the tiara only raises more speculation.
