'The Passion Of The Christ': Jim Caviezel Talks About His Experience While Filming The Movie
Mel Gibson's “The Passion of the Christ” movie has done really well since it was released about 13 years ago. It got quite a number of awards, namely the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Drama in 2005 and the Satellite Award for Best Director in the same year.
However, there is a lot more to talk about the success of the film than most people are aware of.
Jim Caviezel’s testimony
Playing the role of Jesus is not an easy taskl. So, it is evident that Jim Caviezel went through many hard times.
Since playing the role of Jesus Christ in the movie, Jim has granted a couple of interviews, and one question kept coming up “What did it take you to prepare for the role?”.
In his response, he kept telling of how much he had to put in to make the movie a reality. From having to learn the language, coping with harsh weather conditions, and even experiencing the physical toll on his body, he went through all these.
He told Dave Cooper that if the movie had been shot in a controlled set, people wouldn’t have seen the performance. It was truly birth in pain.
He added that in the process of filming, he even got his shoulder separated because of the 130-pound cross he carried. He soon found himself asking God:
Hello God, we are trying to do a movie here. I am an actor; Just an actor here. You are letting the devil or whatever to destroy us.
Jim said his utmost goal and determination was:
I don’t want people to see me, I want them too see Jesus.
He became sick, lost about 42 pounds, had his lungs filled with fluids, and kept throwing up but didn’t give up on the role.
'The Passion of the Christ'
Whether it was the sacrifice he went while filming the movie or the hand of God that came upon it because of the message it carried, 'The Passion of the Christ' was a grand success.
It made history as the highest grossing independent film ever with gathering over $611 million dollars in pre-ticket sales. And did over a billion dollars in sales worldwide.
'The Passion of the Christ' was also nominated for “The Best Musical Original Score” in a motion picture at the Oscars.
