May 19, 2016, was going to be a life-changing day for Candace Payne. And it was going down on Facebook Live!
On Chewbacca's Video
So far, most of the world, specifically over 170 million of its inhabitants, has been bitten by the laughter bug from her viral video which she titled, “It’s the simple joys in life.”
Candace had just bought for herself a Star War’s mask and wanted to share the excitement with her Facebook friends while she tried it on. The hilarity and laughter she exuded from the local parking lot she recorded the experience were just electric; and it earned her the name, “Chewbacca mom.”
The said video brought her internet fame and media attention from big media outlets like The Late Late Show with James Corden and also Good Morning America.
On Her Joy
It seems just logical to conclude that Candace was born smiling and doing just that until this viral video she made that kind of made her famous.
But in a recent interview with the online Christian media, The Gospel Herald, Candace admitted that at a point in her life was a victim of suicidal tendencies and depression. She said:
When I was in college, I compared my worth, my value, anything and everything, to those around me…When those thoughts happen, they spiral out of control and you feel under the weight of them over anything else. Comparison had such a grip on me that it led me to diet pills, to self-harming, and to having suicidal thoughts.
With the support and influence of her roommate in college, however, Candace was able to overcome those dark moments of her life, even as she stated in the interview:
You can't have true, lasting joy outside of the Holy Spirit. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, and there's no more clarity than that.
Candace details the moments of her depression, her newfound joy and more in her book, "Laugh It Up: Embrace Freedom & Experience Defiant Joy (Zondervan/HarperCollins)."
TV Show And Meeting With Chewbacca
In a separate interview with parade.com, Candace said that she felt honored to have met J.J. Abrams, the helmsman behind Star Wars Episode 8. She stated:
He’s just brilliant.
They were both guests on The Late Late Show with Janes Corden. Candace was also invited to meet Mark Zuckerberg and had the opportunity to share a bicycle ride experience with her favorite Chewbacca character!
Besides writing her recent book, Candace also has a video series on TLC’s digital platform, TLCme.
It is truly a blessing to see someone who could have stayed a victim of suicidal tendencies and may have even ended up taking her own life turn around and be a blessing to many others. There is always a silver lining in every cloud and this is a lesson for us all.
