When Domino was 14, he dropped the school and focused on his musical career. He worked at the local factory to earn money for living. Soon, the boy’s talent was noticed by the well-known New Orleans bass player and band leader, Billy Diamond, who gave Domino the nickname 'Fats'. The young man started playing in the band, and his brilliant talent made him a sensation pretty soon.

Domino said that he found the inspiration for writing his songs from everyday events:
Something that happened to someone, that's how I write all my songs. I used to listen to people talk every day, and I used to go to different places. Sometimes I wasn't expecting to hear anything, and my mind was very much in my music. Next thing I'd hear, I would either write it down or remember it good.
Fats Domino was not just the popular artist but also a happy family man. He had a loving wife, Rosemary, and eight wonderful kids. In his later years, Domino mostly stayed out of the spotlight. The legendary artist passed away of natural causes on October 24th, 2017, at the age of 89.
