Date January 26, 2018

Elizabeth Taylor and Debbie Reynolds had been good friends for many years. But few people know that there was a bad streak in the relationship of these actresses. For several years, Debbie and Elizabeth did not communicate with each other, and the reason for this was a scandalous love triangle.

Stealing bestie’s husband

She changed men as often as clothes, she was married 8 times, she loved diamonds, and she was among the first celebs involved in AIDS. But she was not a loyal friend. Being a bestie of Debbie, Elizabeth nevertheless saw nothing shameful in stealing her husband, Eddie Fisher, with whom Debbie brought up two children.

This story began in 1958 when the third Taylor’s husband died in a plane crash. Eddie and Debbie supported and comforted the famous actress as best they could, and later, Reynolds admitted that she had nothing against close communication between the two.

But two weeks later, Reynolds realized that her marriage was over – her precious husband and friend had flown together to New York. Hollywood was shocked by the new romance, but Taylor did not feel any guilt, responding to journalists' questions about her behavior:

I’m not taking anything away from Debbie Reynolds because she never really had it.

As for the claims that Elizabeth found a new love a few months after the death of her previous husband, she explained the situation this way:

Mike is dead and I’m alive. What do you expect me to do? Sleep alone?

In her interview, Debbie Reynolds said that there were real problems with their relationship with Eddie – in particular, in bed – so that the divorce was highly anticipated. In 1959, Debbie and Eddie officially divorced, and the same year, he and Elizabeth tied the knot. But the marriage of lovers lasted only 2 years.

Coming face-to-face again

Their friendship began to renew in 1964, when they were together on a sea cruise. Debbie sent a note to Elizabeth, where she suggested to forget about the problems of the past, dine together, and talk. Many women did not approve of this decision, believing that Taylor could not be forgiven. But this is how Debbie saw the situation:

I felt you can’t make a man leave, you can’t make him do something he doesn’t want to do.

But Elizabeth could not stop feeling guilty:

I just feel so awful when I think of how I hurt you and your children.

Nevertheless, they eventually managed to leave everything behind and remain good friends for the rest of their lives.
