First meeting and proposal

In 1952, 35-year-old Kennedy met Jackie at a dinner party. He immediately noticed a pretty girl with the grace and dignity of a queen. No wonder, he decided to take a serious step so fast.

They had a stormy affair, and next year, the senator proposed to her. In fact, there are two versions of how it was. The first one is a little unconventional as some believe that John proposed over the phone because Jacqueline was in Great Britain at that time. Others think he did it at Table 40 in Parker’s Restaurant.

Since their marriage, she had been taking care of her husband’s image. She was also trying to separate public life from personal one, protecting her family from the close attention of paparazzi and the press. But Jackie always tried to look classy, so she soon became a trendsetter and a real example of elegance and style.

Success and children

Meanwhile, John seriously aimed to reach the top of the political Olympus. In 1954, he was elected to Congress, but this success was overshadowed by the fact that their long-awaited first daughter was born dead. Jackie clenched her teeth, trying not to show her grief in public, and in 1957, she gave birth to Caroline. Three years later, they welcomed a son John.

Two losses in one year

In August 1963, the Kennedy family suffered another new loss. Their newborn baby Patrick died. This time, the grief brought the couple together, and they really warmed to one another, but on November 22nd, it all ended. In Texas, John Kennedy did not survive the assassination attempt. Jacqueline was sitting next to her husband, but luckily, she was not hurt.

She later confessed that she could not forget the look on his face the second the bullet struck him.

He looked as if he had a slight headache.

The second shot was fatal. But Jacqueline still clung to the slimmest hope, whispering to her spouse that she loved him.
