Сatherine Zeta-Jones, A Co-Star Of The Action Comedy RED 2, Speaks On Living With Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder affects 5.7 million American adults or about 2.6% of the US population, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. A condition, which typically presents as intermittent episodes of heightened excitement and extreme depression, can affect just about anyone.

It, however, came as an alarming news when Catherine Zeta-Jones was diagnosed with the condition back in 2011. Stretched under the strain of taking care of her husband at the time, who was battling stage four throat cancer, Catherine also struggled with the condition of which she eventually had to check into a facility.

Her husband’s condition placed her under an undue amount of stress that most probably triggered her manic depression. Bearing the burden of taking care of her husband and having to cater for her children’s needs and fears may result in such situation.

Life going forward

Since coming out with the news, she said:

The fact that there was a name for my emotions and that a professional could talk me through my symptoms was very liberating. There are amazing highs and very low lows.

The mother of two and co-star of the hit action comedy RED 2, she has raised attention to the problem of manic depression.

Just anyone could be affected

The star actress has not only proved that the condition could affect anyone but in her talk with InStyle magazine, she said:

I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don't have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.

Michael Douglas, her hubby, is finally overcame the throat cancer. Now, Catherine can focus on her home, mood swings, and general state of her mind. She has a positive attitude and outlook on life as a whole. She maintains a healthy diet, exercises regularly, and is an integral part of her children’s lives.
