Royal Women at the Fashion Museum Bath

Wives and daughters, sisters and mothers; none of the Royal women featured in the exhibition was monarch; yet, each played a key role in the British monarchy. The stories behind the dresses and the choice of color, cut, or style can tell us much about Alexandra, Mary, Elizabeth, and Margaret, and how they chose to present themselves as royal women.

Royal fashion has been changing dramatically throughout the centuries. It went from big ball gowns to sophisticated dresses in order to fit the transforming lifestyle and world trends. One thing that all the years of the royalty attire have in common is the sense of elegance, grace, and luxury.

Although we can no longer see our modern Royal Family wear dresses remotely similar to those worn by Queen Alexandra or Queen Mary, we recognize their beauty and look back in admiration.
