The tennis pro announced her return to court five months after giving birth. Serena gave birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia, in September 2017.

She was scheduled to play in the Australian Open in January but decided to pull out of the event after her loss to Jelena Ostapenko in the French Open on December 30, 2017.

Having won 2017 open when she was a few weeks pregnant with Olympia, Williams noted that, "the memory of last year's Open [2017] is one that I will carry", and that she looked forward to coming back to compete again in the future.

The Indian Wells champion defeated Williams in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at the stadium court on Key Biscayne. The eight-time Miami Open champion did not do a post-match interview after her loss to the 20-year-old but posted a message for her fans Thursday on Instagram.

The "#WhatIsYourS" hashtag is a reference to a campaign Williams started with a message on social media on March 7. She is wearing and giving out pins with the letter "S" and challenging her fans to come up with one "S" word in their lives that means something to them.

She says when she wears her "S" pin, she represents strength and sureness.
