"My Husband Can Finally Carry Me": Woman Celebrates Viral Weight Loss
April 10, 2018 10:04 By Fabiosa
Through diet and exercise, Jordan Kirkham lost 130 lb. During a trip to the pool with her husband, she showed off her new figure and extra skin, and it got the internet buzzing.
Her weight loss success
Like anyone who has attempted to lose a lot of weight, Jordan said the journey was full of its ups and downs. It took her about two years to lose the weight, and she even had a child in between.
When she first started, Kirkham relied on healthier food, portion control, and exercise, and lost about 60 to 70 pounds before discovering she was pregnant.
About six months into her journey, Kirkham confessed she went through a Lap-Band procedure - it's an adjustable strap wrapped around the stomach to lose weight. However, she wouldn't recommend it to others.
At first, Kirkham said the excess skin scared her, but with about 30 to 40 pounds to lose until she reaches her weight goal, she eventually plans on getting surgery to remove the excess skin.
By posting the journey online, her intentions were never to tell people what to do with their bodies; her goal was to inspire people to be more self-confident.
Another woman whose weight loss went viral
But after her photo went viral, several people shared their own weight-loss experiences and self-esteem issues around wearing a bikini. 24-year-old Haley Smith, from Texas, had weighed 277 pounds when Matt Smith asked her to be his wife.
It has been a hot minute since I’ve done a #transformationtuesday but today I was just thinking about how different we are as a couple. Both of these pictures were on different vacations. The first one was in New York, we took it really easy, opted for sedentary activities, or just skipped em all together. On the right, we made healthy choices (mostly!), went on extra excursions, and even woke up to hit the gym every morning! We still relax, pig out, and have off days, but it’s so nice to choose what we prefer. We are about to take another tropical vacation to the Galápagos Islands, and I’m so excited to not be held back! I want to zipline without worrying about my weight, I want to hike without getting too winded in the first five minutes, and mostly I just want to enjoy myself without that nagging fear. I love how our lives have changed, and I can’t wait to keep moving forward! • You can still join my Dietbet for full workouts and meal plans by clicking the link in my bio! Upon seeing the proposal photos, Haley felt motivated to change her diet and fitness habits so she could feel comfortable in her wedding dress. She remained consistent by marking off her workout tasks and logging her diet on her social media.
Didn't make it to the gym today, but thanks to @heartkettlebells I still got in a quick workout! -15 Russian swings -15 squat to row -20 lunges -20 rows -20 side to side crunches -20 sit ups -10 lateral raise -repeat all 3 times Shirt: @motivationalbrand #motivationalbrand #motivationalbottle #heartkettlebells #kettlebell #kettlebellworkout #onedayatatime #oneworkoutatatime
In over a year, Haley lost about 110 lb. By the time of her wedding, she looked like a brand new person. All the months of hard work finally paid off.
#transformationtuesday for some of the new followers I got this week thanks to @fitbit for featuring my story! On the left was my proposal day in July 2015 at 280ish lbs. On the right was March 2017 at 170ish lbs. Both girls are happy and loved life, but the girl on the right is just a bit more relaxed and much more healthy! There are lots of ups and downs in this journey, but it's all been worth it! I struggle with motivation and cheat days just like everyone. You just have to balance it out so that the good outweighs the bad! I started slow with changing small eating habits like logging food and drinking more water. I started workouts gradually, too with the Couch-to-5k app. So start your journey today! Who knows where you could be in a year or so! - Shameless plug for My Race, My Pace Virtual 5k! Weight loss tips for sagging belly
If you have lost a lot of weight fast, your skin may be having a hard time catching up to adjust to your new body shape. Below are a few steps that can help make the skin on your abdomen and other areas firmer and more elastic after weight loss.
1. Lose weight gradually
It’s natural that most people want quick results when dieting. Let’s face it: Quick results motivate us to keep moving forward. But with extreme dieting often comes extreme fat and muscle loss. So, pace yourself.
2. Keep the body well-hydrated
Staying well-hydrated is crucial for preserving skin elasticity. Drink plenty of water and beverages like green tea to maintain healthy skin and moisture. When your skin is dehydrated, it affects the layers of the skin by decreasing firmness, leading to sagging.
3. Apply a skin cream
High-quality dermatologist-approved skin creams can help make the skin on your belly and other areas tighter and give it a smoother appearance. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, aloe vera extract, and vitamins A, E, and C.
4. Eat the right nutrients
Hopefully, after losing that weight, you’re sticking to a maintenance plan that includes eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. But if you’re not, then consider this. Your skin is a living organ and needs a wide variety of nutrients to stay healthy and elastic.
5. Do the right exercises
Losing fat without building muscle often leads to loose, saggy skin. Be sure to include strength-training exercises into your workout program to build muscles, which will also give your skin a more elastic and smooth appearance. It’s recommended to do exercises of this type at least twice weekly.
In conclusion, firm and supple skin depends on how fast the weight is lost and how it is maintained. Before heading to a surgeon, maybe try some of the above tips to tighten the skin naturally.
