Many years ago, Jimmy ate a lot of foods that were not very good for him. It got to a point that he was afraid of even finding out how much he weighed. However, in 2010, when he climbed his scale, - something he had not done for most of his adult life - he was surprised to discover he weighed 208 pounds.

Around this time, Dr. Oz paid a visit to his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. During that interview, Dr.Oz pointed out Jimmy's poor eating habits and the unhealthy lifestyle he led. An uncomfortable Jimmy tried to smooth the whole thing over with a joke. The host told Men's Journal:

The next day he called me and said, 'I'm worried about you. You're a young man. You have to take care of yourself.' I was like, 'You know what? Dr.Oz shouldn't care more about my health more than I do.'

Jimmy got the motivation he needed to start taking his health seriously. He began a diet that consisted of two protein shakes and a small dinner every day. He continued this for eight weeks then later went on to consuming 2,000 calories a day.

The 5:2 diet

To maintain his trimmer bod, Jimmy adopted what is known as the 5:2 diet. This weight control method (also called the fast diet) is a favorite among such celebs as Beyonce and Benedict Cumberbatch. It is a method of intermittent fasting where he eats whatever he wants five days a week and eats less than 500 calories on the remaining two days.

On Monday and Tuesday, Jimmy would eat very little. When he was interviewed by The View in 2016, he said that he would only drink coffee, eat pickles, eggs whites, apples, peanut butter and oatmeal on those two restricted days.

Is this diet for you?

Even though this weight loss method may sound appealing to some, it is important to be careful if you are considering trying it out.

Jackie Newgent, RDN, a culinary nutritionist who spoke for Yahoo Health, is totally against this diet:

Getting no exercise and eating fewer than 500 calories a couple days a week is absolutely not a healthful lifestyle approach — ever!

She explained that while you may see results quickly, you may be setting yourself up for failure in the long run.

Another expert, Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN, did not outrightly disapprove of the fast diet. Her main advice is that if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic or have a weak immune system, this may not be the diet for you.
