If you are a fan of the British royal family, you probably noticed that Prince George always stands by his father while Princess Charlotte is held by the Duchess during public appearances. Is this a coincidence? Well, these photos beg to differ.

Sticking with the tradition.

It turns out that the reason for this could be traced down to a traditional purpose. A parenting expert, Jasmine Peters, who spoke to Dailymail, explained that this set-up may simply be a way of getting George prepared for his role as a future king. She explained:

Fathers are typically responsible for the disciplinary actions, redirection, protection and provision of the family.

She went on to say that in a lot of cases, fathers are the best examples of showing a boy what it means to be a man. So, this is probably what inspires the need for the male parent to ensure he builds a strong bond with the son.

Before you judge the family for sticking with what most classify as 'gender stereotypes' it is important to note that their method may be a sign that they are good and loving parents.

Peters explained that this 'division of labor,' so to speak, shows that each parent knows exactly what his/her role is in the family and they are dedicated to fulfilling it.

Although these pictures can look a bit traditional, William and Kate may also understand the importance of a son bonding with his father and a daughter bonding with her mother.

If Peters is correct, then we have to wonder how this dynamic will change when Prince William and Kate Middleton welcome their third child in April.

Oh, and by the way, Prince George wears shorts for a reason.

You probably noticed something else in the above photos, that Prince George seems to favor shorts as opposed to long pants. Well, this too is no coincidence.

Etiquette expert, William Hanson, explained that it's an "English thing" to dress a boy in shorts. Usually, older boys wear trousers. In fact, it's considered quite 'middle class'  (maybe even suburban) for a young boy to put on trousers.

And no self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge.

So, when will George be able to wear trousers? Well according to Hanson, when he's about eight years old.

The expert did acknowledge that wearing shorts for Prince George may be more about tradition than it is about class. Just take a look at Prince William and his brother, Harry, looking adorable in his own pair.

We don't really care what he wears, Prince George looks super cute either way.
