Childhood upbringing plays a part

A lot of things come together to make us the adults we become: The personalities we are born with, what our parents pass on to us, the societal contexts we grow up in and the strengths/talents we have. This means that for the most part, the events and interactions in our early childhood may greatly affect the choices we make in our adult lives.

It is true that we largely take responsibility for changing our lives as adults, but as parents, it is necessary to help raise children who do not become dysfunctional adults.

Royal tips

There is an abundance of how-to books and resources available to parents of young children on child upbringing. But, who better to turn to than the British royal family for tips!

The children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, George and Charlotte, don’t get it easy simply because they are royals.

To start with, William and Kate are hands-on parents. They do not have a long list of caregivers and reportedly have just one babysitter.

The royals are committed to instilling discipline in their children, but also ensure that they establish the connection as friends.

For instance, Kate Middleton is known to playfully join George on the floor with a tantrum of her own, when he gets into a fit of tantrums. But, on the flipside, the children don’t get to play with gadgets. Their fun is restricted to cartoons, games, bicycle rides, and toys.

Parenting right

Raising a well-adjusted adult can seem like an uphill task, but it is doable. Experts say it is important to be content and happy as individuals first.

It is top priority to focus on getting happy with our partners. A happy, wholesome relationship is key to giving children security, but also helping them respect boundaries.

Yet, the keyword is balance. Focusing on building a strong relationship with your partner should not come in the way of being available to your children, spending time together as a family, and helping them build healthy relationships socially.

At the end of the day, what matters is the process. Concentrate on the effort and attitude instead of result. And, seek out opportunities to acknowledge your children’s good behavior, attitude, and effort.
