During The Florida Mass Shooting, 15-Year-Old Anthony Borges Got Shot Five Times, But Saved Twenty Of His Classmates

A heroic 15-year-old put his own life on the line when he shielded fellow students from a barrage of bullets. He was trying to keep the shooter from entering their classroom during Wednesday’s mass shooting at a Florida school, saving as many as 20 lives.

On that fateful day

When shots rang out at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018, students and teachers did everything they could to stay safe.

Many students hid in locked classrooms and texted their family members, while others evacuated the school. Tragically, 17 people lost their lives in the mass shooting, and many others were injured. Among those who were wounded is 15-year-old, Anthony Borges. Anthony, a soccer player, ran into a classroom to hide when alleged gunman, Nikolas Cruz, opened fire.

After entering the room, Anthony tried to lock the door, but he was shot, according to reports. Instead of trying to save himself and hide, Anthony continued barricading the door with his own body. His selfless action ended up saving around 20 of his classmates. The heroic teen was shot five times but managed to keep the door shut.

Despite his injuries, Anthony survived the shooting is now being hailed as a hero.

Social media has nothing but love for Anthony.

Anthony has been bombarded with praise on social media for his heroic act. Soccer star, Landon Donovan, posted on the teen’s GoFundMe account in a Twitter post saying, “Soccer community: One of our own was a hero last week and needs our help. Please donate if you can.”

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel stopped by the hospital to see the 15-year-old soccer player. His office said in a Twitter post, “He has a long road ahead of him with more surgeries needed."
