Meryl Streep Opened Up About Situation When Cher Helped Her Protect A Person And Fight Off An Attacker

Date December 22, 2017

This year's annual ceremony for the Committee to Protect Journalists helped people learn a few of Meryl Streep's secrets. When talking to the journalists, the Oscar-winning actress recalled the times when she had to face “real terror” and “physical violence.”

During her speech, the 68-year-old actress opened up about two of the most terrifying experiences in her life, reports People.

The two times in my life when I was threatened and dealt with real physical violence, I learned something about life that I wouldn’t have known otherwise, and I was lucky because my instincts served me well.

Years ago, Meryl Streep learned first-hand what a pure violence looked like: the woman was attacked and beaten severely. As Streep recalled, she had to “play dead” and wait “until the blows stopped.”

The second time, the Hollywood star was not a victim but a witness to the attack.

In the second instance, someone else was being abused and I just went completely nuts and went after this man.

She managed to win that battle and make the attacker run away. Furthermore, it turned out that the Devil Wears Prada star was not alone that night. The legendary singer and actress Cher was also there.

Apparently, Streep was talking about the same accident Cher once mentioned in an interview with US Weekly. Years ago, the two celebrities saved a girl from a thug in New York City.

People on social media were impressed by the story.

However, chasing and fighting off street attackers was not the only thing the two Hollywood legends did great together. Back in 1983, both Meryl Streep and Cher starred in Mile Nichols' drama Silkwood.

And in 2017, the actresses joined the cast of the upcoming musical comedy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The film is due for release in summer 2018.
