Woody Allen is the brilliant director who gave us great movies such as Annie Hall, Manhattan, and Hannah and Her Sisters. However, his love life has been controversial, to say the least. Nevertheless, after years of dating and trying to find himself, Allen settled with Soon-Yi Previn.

We all know that love is blind and will strike when you are least expecting it to. For Woody Allen, it was the adopted daughter of a woman he was seeing at the time, Mia Farrow. Soon-Yi and Allen gradually became a thing which ended his relationship with Mia in a really ugly break-up.

It has been 25 years since then and the two got married, adopted children of their own and still living together. The relationship, although strange at the beginning, has stood the test of time.

'I started the relationship with her and I thought it would just be a fling'

In an interview with NPR's film critic, Sam Fragoso, Allen has opened up about his relationship with his 35 years younger wife. First of all, Allen said that the age difference was never in the way and that the two of them somehow made it their advantage.

The age difference didn't seem to matter - it seemed to work in our favor actually. I'm 35 years older, and somehow, through no fault of mine or hers, the dynamic worked.

Allen also explained that he didn't believe the relationship would become more than a simple fling. Of course, the great director should have known that love has a mind of its own and pretty much does what it wants.

I started the relationship with her and I thought it would just be a fling. It wouldn't be serious, but it had a life of its own. And I never thought it would be anything more. Then we started going together, then we started living together, and we were enjoying it.

Despite everything, it is always inspiring to see a thriving relationship. The couple has survived a lot of judging and press defamation but stayed strong. It even becomes adorable once you see that Allen claims it was all just luck.

I liked her youth and energy. She deferred to me, and I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision making just as a gift and let her take charge of so many things. She flourished.

It was just a good luck thing.
