Whitney Houston was an incredibly talented singer and just fabulous woman, whose awesome voice made her the second artist after Elton John to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards.

Her eternal hit “I Will Always Love You” still remains one of the greatest love songs ever. With the soundtrack to The Bodyguard, Houston received the Grammy Award in 1994 and became the first female artist to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week.

Few people know that Houston began her musical career by singing at churches. She started performing at the age of 11 as a soloist in the junior gospel choir.

During her early career in Hollywood, the star worked as a model. Besides singing, Houston proved her talent as an actress. She appeared in four movies: The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife, and Sparkle.

The Bodyguard was a real breakthrough in Whitney’s acting career. The movie grossed more than $121 million in the US and $410 million worldwide.

In one of her early interviews, Whitney confessed her favorite actress was Jessica Lange. She followed her example and was inspired by Lange’s roles.
