Initially, Meryl planned to become a lawyer and was going to study at the law school. But at the day of her interview, she overslept and took it as a sign to turn her future career in a different direction.

Streep can easily command different accents, starting from Australian, Italian, German, Polish, to even New York Bronx. Once, at the beginning of her acting career, Streep tried out to play the main female role in “King Kong” remake. A producer told his assistant in Italian that the actress was not pretty enough for the part, but Meryl surprised the rude man when she replied back in fluent Italian.

Of all of the roles the actress has auditioned for, Streep has been turned down only four times. One of these 4 films was 'The Remains of the Day', which went to Emma Thompson.
