The Duchess of Cambridge is one of the most popular members of the British royal family. She married to Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, in 2011 and, by this, has earned her place as a possible future queen consort.
She was born Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton in 1982. Her parents are Michael Middleton and Carole Middleton. Together, they founded a mail order company and amassed a fortune to the tune of $35 million.
Her family is recorded to have some connection with British aristocracy and have hosted royals for several decades.
Everyone still calls her Kate Middleton
The Duchess of Cambridge has been married to Prince William for more than five years. And the palace officially recognizes her as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William calls her Catherine. However, the rest of the world still calls her Kate Middleton. The question is why?
It’s the name she was introduced with
When the relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton hit the news, everyone got to know her as Kate Middleton. And the name stuck.
A reminder she is not a born royal
There was a lot of talk about Kate not being of royal stock. And her last name seemed to serve as a constant reminder of this.
Titles can be confusing
She is called “Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge”, but her title changes when she visits Scotland. Her title becomes “Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Strathearn”.
The Internet not in a hurry to change
Perhaps, the biggest reason why she is still referred to as Kate Middleton is the Internet. The U.S. media companies still find it more convenient using the maiden name against “Duchess of Cambridge”.
Studies of Google search results show that Kate Middleton generates more hits than any of the official titles.
You know who she is and that is what matters
But whatever you call her, Kate Middleton or Her Royal Highness, she still remains the most beloved person of the British royal family.
