She was with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, driver Henri Paul and bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones. Of the four, only Rees-Jones survived. And many still suspect foul play. Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrel, shared a letter he claims Diana wrote. In it, she expressed her concerns about an imminent threat to her life.

Sergeant Xavier Gourmelon, who led the rescue team, said he felt Diana should have survived the accident. According to him, her injuries seemed superficial. She even spoke at the scene of the accident. Sadly, Diana died after suffering a cardiac arrest in the early hours of the morning.

20 years after Diana's death, the air is still unclear about the circumstance surrounding her accident. There was no CCTV in the Alma underpass, near the Seine. It took several hours before the injured Diana reached the hospital.

Prince Charles was there for his sons

Prince William and Prince Harry failed to mention their father Prince Charles in the 2017 documentary film, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. To many observers, this suggested the brothers still had a bone to pick with their father.

However, the duo spoke about him in August, just a month after the documentary was released. Prince William said:

Our father was there for us. He tried to make sure that we were protected.

Prince William and Prince Harry were at Balmoral Castle when their mother died. The Queen felt it best they stay there in Scotland, away from the press in London.

It was a difficult time for the family and despite being miles apart, Prince Charles was still the caring father to his sons.

Their first meeting with Camilla Parker-Bowles didn’t go well

From their early years, Prince William and Prince Harry were aware of Camilla. But it was not until 1992 that Prince Charles officially attempted to introduce her to the boys. It did not go so well.

Prince William especially was vehemently opposed to the idea of Camilla becoming his stepmother. But by 1998, he noticed that Camilla was more visible and clearly an important part of his father’s life.

The older prince had his first conversation with Camilla at a diner in St. James Palace. Details of the conversation were not made public. However, it seems to have shaken Camilla up a bit. She is reported to have asked for a drink after the 30-minute talk.

As the years passed, relations between Camilla and the princes got much better and even cordial. In 2005, speaking at the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William said;

She’s a wonderful woman, and she made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing. William and I love her to bits.
