Gerald Ford was the 38th president of the US and had his charming wife who is considered to be one of the most active enthusiasts in the social life of the country.


Her personal qualities allowed her to be a marvelous speechmaker turning the First Lady into the influential defender of women’s rights.

The peak of her activist career was submitted when at the beginning of the 1970s she was diagnosed with breast cancer.


She could quietly deal with it by deleting the tumor, but she decided to reveal the problem to the public. Together with Margaretta Rockefeller, she decided to raise the public awareness and proclaimed about her personal problem.

As a result, her brave move made the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute work on the problem of the disease early detection. Unfortunately, Betty’s cancer was not in the early stage. Luckily, due to the timely chemotherapy, Ford survived, providing America with one of the most remarkable lessons of all times.

Among the modern celebrities, breast cancer is, unfortunately, a common disease.


However, with the ability to detect the issue in early stages, it is now not a serious problem.


Famous women such as Kylie Minogue, Angelina Jolie, and Giuliana Rancic have been diagnosed and successfully fought breast cancer.
