Monroe’s iconic performance of “Happy Birthday Mr. President” on Kennedy’s 45th birthday was regarded by many as the proof of their romantic relationships. Another possible proof was Jackie Kennedy’s absence at her own husband’s birthday party that night.

Monroe and Kennedy were first introduced to each other by an actor, Peter Lawford, at a dinner party. Both of them were photographed extensively throughout the night.

Marilyn vs. Jackie

According to the book “These Few Precious Days: The Final Year of Jack with Jackie,” which became a bestseller just in a couple of weeks since it was released, Marilyn called Jackie and confessed she was sleeping with her husband. The actress added that John even promised to leave his family for her.

According to the author, Christopher Andersen, Jackie knew everything about John's cheating, but she chose to look the other way as long as he didn't humiliate her publicly. Nevertheless, his relationship with Marilyn seemed to bother her the most.

The book says when Monroe reportedly called Jackie to tell about her affair with JFK, the first lady responded in an unusual way. Here is what she told Marilyn:

Marilyn, you'll marry Jack, that's great. And you'll move into the White House, and you'll assume the responsibilities of the first lady, and I'll move out and you'll have all the problems.

By the way, Monroe was believed to have an affair not just with President Kennedy but also with his brother, Robert F. Kennedy. The book says when John became tired of the star, he just passed her off to Robert.

A love triangle “John-Jackie-Marilyn” is still one of the most discussed among people. Critics still argue about the relationships between the late US President, his beautiful wife, and the world-famous actress.
