David Weightman's passion for photography

David Weightman, a British wedding photographer, has been doing his job for more than 10 years already. He is passionate about his choice of profession, as even the name of his website shows the love of photography: www.marriedtomycamera.com. His goal is to provide an alternative to the traditional wedding photos. And he is surely doing great at it.

David’s last project, however, wasn’t about young couples who are getting married, but about those people who have been together for decades. The photographer wanted to give recognition and respect to the longest married couples. Besides the photo, David also asked them to share the secret of their marriage.

Without further ado, here is the collection of photos and the couples' “secrets:”

Sheila and Archie, married Sept. 6, 1952

The secret of a happy marriage is to give and take and look after one another. That goes for both of us. Always work through problems and never give up. Don’t expect too much, be happy with what you have.

Mary and Graham, married June 26, 1965

Good luck and good genes, and no conflicting interests.

Gavin and Christina, married Oct. 27, 1979

Alan and Judith, married July 15, 1971

The secret to a long happy marriage is to do lots of different things separately so you each bring new ideas and interest to the relationship. The odd difference of opinion is good to keep the other on their toes!

Michael and Sue, married Nov. 26, 1977

Love, friendship, patience and a sense of humour.

Maurice and Anne, married Sept. 1, 1959

Always, whatever happens, be the best of friends, in good times and bad.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, married April 1996

We can kind of see all the ups and downs for what they are. Our priority is our family, and we’re there for each other no matter what.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, married June 25, 2006

I think it’s commitment, and also just going, ‘I love you and I like you…’ And really contributing to that. And I also see it as I am also incredibly fortunate to have met the person I just love being with more than anyone in the world besides my kids.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, married October 19, 2012

The first rule is that I make her feel like she’s getting everything. The second rule is that I actually do let her have her way in everything. And, so far, it’s working.
