Study Shows That Women's Cells Can Age 11 Years Faster After Giving Birth
There is definitely something magical about parenting. Although the science has explained the nature of birth, we still believe that creation of life has something to do with God. And that is a good thing. Our faith gives us strenght and teaches us to love each other.
The significance of parenthood
Parenthood is an important part of life. This part is arguably the most significant and important in our lives. It opens us to something absolutely new; it changes us in ways we couldn’t imagine. Some may be afraid of becoming a parent, and it may be quite scary, for sure. Imagine all extra responsibilities you would have.
Being a parent means being a biographer, photographer, teacher, chef, and a slave all at once. It means having absolute power over another human being and using it for good. Your every word, touch, look will have an impact on this human being and will guide them into their own life.
Women age faster if having a baby
However, every coin has two sides. A recent study shows that women who give birth age faster. This occurs on a cellular level. Researchers at George Mason University, Virginia, claim that having a child makes woman’s cells age 11 years faster. They examined blood sample of nearly 2000 American women and made the discovery. Scientists noticed the difference in cells between women who gave birth and those who did not.
Telomeres, a part of DNA structure, are there to protect DNA from degeneration. Hence, the shorter telomeres get, the worse it is. It seems that women who had a child have shorter telomeres. However, do not panic. Another recent study on Mayan women, in 2017, showed the opposite results.
Most researchers seem to agree that the thing about aging doesn’t depend on having a child. It is simply connected with a level of stress. Apparently, stress indeed is killing our cells, or, it is better to say, our reaction to stress.
The child-free trend among celebrities
There are people who simply don’t want to have children. Some of the most famous people chose not to have kids and named the reasons which stand behind the decision. The most common reasons are: more time for themselves, focus on the life with partner, mentoring in other ways, fear of failing as a parent, and many more.
Everybody with a womb doesn't have to have a child any more than everybody with vocal cords has to be an opera singer. – Gloria Steinem
It seems that Ellen DeGeneres, Helen Mirren, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, and many others agree with Gloria’s position.
What do you think about the child-free trend? Do you believe that life is not full without parenthood?
