Madonna's family

The pop star now has six children, including the twin sisters she adopted from Malawi earlier this year. While making the announcement at the time, Madonna said she was "overjoyed that they are now part of our family."

The singer has always been very open about her love for her children, four of whom are adopted. She brought David Banda home with her in 2006 and adopted Mercy James in 2009. The twin sisters Esther and Stella Mwale got to join the family in 2017.

Her biological children are Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon and Rocco Ritchie. She had 20-year-old Lourdes when she was with Carlos Leon, and Rocco, who is 16, was born when she was with her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie.

She adopted all four of her children from Malawi.

Madonna has been very vocal about her love for motherhood. She considers being a mother as a form of therapy for her because she lost her own mom at the tender age of five.

"Yeah. I get to become the mom I never had. So, yeah, it's a very healing experience," she said in a recent interview with CBS.

Feeling Sentimental

Yesterday, the famous singer was feeling a little nostalgic and decided to share a couple of heartwarming videos featuring her children.

The first one was a video montage consisting of many pictures of the beautiful Lourdes. She captioned it with the words:

Feeling Sentimental!! Wish that Time Could Stand Still for a Moment. (A Long Moment)

She followed this up a couple of hours later with two other montages of her other kids. Seeing everyone so young, beautiful, and happy certainly gave us the feels.

The complications of adoption

Even though Madonna has absolutely no regrets about adopting her children, she admitted that the process was not always easy.

While trying to adopt David, the songstress said she was castigated by the media. "Every newspaper said I kidnapped him," she said. She wondered where all the reports came from, especially when she did "everything by the book." She described this moment as a low point, and she revealed that she would often cry herself to sleep.

Bringing Mercy home was not any easier. Madonna said she was told by the Malawians officials that because she was a single mother (she had just split from Guy Ritchie), she was not "capable of raising a child." She challenged this decision at the Malawi Supreme Court and won.

Adopting Estere and Stella was also not smooth, as according to her, the officials were being a little difficult because they did not want it to look like they showed any preference to her because she was a star.

"It’s complicated, but it’s so worth it," she said of the whole experience.
