Comedian Bob Newhart And Ginnie Quinn Are The Perfect Example Of A Strong Marriage

Date December 20, 2017

Lasting marriages in Hollywood have become a true rarity. It is so refreshing to see a union that has been going on for almost 55 years. Bob Newhart and his wife Virginia Quinn could surely be a couple that can inspire their young colleagues.

George Robert Newhart, or Bob as the American audience knows him by, has been entertaining people for more than five decades. As a comedian, Bob Newhart rose to fame with his comedy album The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart in the 60s.

Later on in his life, Bob went into acting. He mainly appeared on television shows and sitcoms. His latest appearance on the TV show The Big Bang Theory brought him his first Primetime Emmy Award in 2013.

The long-lasting couple actually met on a blind date. It was the comedian Buddy Hackett who set up the date in LA. Virginia 'Ginnie' was Hackett's babysitter, and he looked at the possible relationship between her and Bob as a done deal. Ginnie remembers the day Hackett told her about Bob.

Buddy came back one day and said in his own inimitable way, 'I met this young guy and his name is Bobby Newhart, and he’s a comic and he’s Catholic and you’re Catholic, and I think maybe you should marry each other'.

History simply unraveled after their date. The couple got married in 1963 and has been together ever since. They have four children together and a couple of grandkids as well.

Bob Newhart is an acclaimed comedian and actor, to say the least; however, even he knows that true happiness lies within something far more important.

I'm most proud of the longevity of my marriage, my kids, and my grandchildren. If you don't have that, you really don't have very much.

Of course, as a true comedian, he has discovered the therapeutic effects of laughter a long time ago.

I think one reason for a successful marriage is laughter. I think laughter gets you through the rough moments in a marriage.

Perhaps, there is still hope for all the romantic souls out there trying to find their partner for life. Maybe, we should simply follow Bob and Ginnie's example and go for longevity instead of settling for something that won't last.
