Gary Oldman Finally Wins The Best Actor In A Drama Award At The Golden Globes 2018

Date January 12, 2018

It is difficult to believe, but this is the first time for Gary Oldman to receive the Golden Globe. However, for his incredible performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, he deserved it probably more than ever.

Gary Oldman didn't want to portray Winston Churchill

Gary Oldman almost passed on the role that brought him the Golden Globe because he was overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of Winston Churchill. As he said to Jimmy Kimmel, Churchill was such an important historical icon and one of the greatest persons that has ever lived; thus, it posed too much of a task for him.

Furthermore, being aware that great actors have already portrayed the role, it has undeniably put pressure on Oldman. With that being said, Gary has not only lived up to the expectation of the audience, but he was also accepted by the surviving members of the Churchill family.

Winning the Golden Globe

At the recently held Golden Globe Awards, it was Oldman who got the most prestigious prize for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama. It was strikingly odd that this was, in fact, his first nomination for this award. After being pleasantly surprised, Oldman realized that he simply deserved it.

His fans have waited this recognition for long, Twitter simply exploded. Here are just some of the tweets people have sent in support of this magnificent actor.

His co-workers were also delighted to see Oldman getting the prize at last.

Oscar predictions

According to Critics' Choice, Darkest Hour is bound to continue its winning streak. Could this mean we would finally see Gary Oldman getting an Academy Award for the Best Actor? We certainly hope so since an actor of his talent has to be recognized by the entire film community.
