"I Never Had Any Inclination To Remarry. She Was My Wife," Says Bob Barker Who Lost His Wife More Than 30 Years Ago
Since the death of Dorothy Jo Gideon 36 years ago, iconic American former TV game show host and 19-time Emmy winner Bob Barker did not remarry, and here is the reason why he never did that.
On December 12th, 2017, Bob Barker became 94 years old man. He had a successful career.

During the World War II, Barker enlisted in the United States Navy as a fighter pilot. He then worked in radio while attending college. He later relocated to California in 1950 to focus on a broadcasting career.
For six years, he ran his own radio show, The Bob Barker Show, and then hosted Truth or Consequences, his first game show. Barker also hosted various game shows, including the Miss Universe and Miss USA. In 1972, he began hosting The Price Is Right, which is the longest-running game show on TV.
His marriage to Dorothy Jo Gideon
Bob Barker met the love of his life, Dorothy Jo Gideon, in high school, and they went on a date to an Ella Fitzgerald concert in Missouri, when he was just 15 years old.
After Bob took leave from the Navy in 1945, he married to Gideon on January 12th, the same year. They were married for 36 years before she died due to the lung cancer on October 19th, 1981.
Dorothy’s death left him devastated. And he never remarried. In an interview with Good Morning America in 2007, Barker said “I never had any inclination to remarry. She was my wife.”
His wife’s influence on him
Barker also revealed how his wife supported him. She advocated animal rights and was a vegetarian, and this made Barker a vegetarian too. Immediately after her death, he went public with his animal-rights activism.
The powerful former presenter and legend who has had minor health issues over the years still grieves over his wife’s demise and visits her grave with a bouquet of flowers regularly to honor the anniversaries of her death.
Another very similar touching love story is that of Queen of television, Betty White, who never remarried since her husband Allen Ludden died in 1981. Allen remains the love of her lifetime, and she honors that fact by not remarrying. For Bob Barker and Betty White, love lasts forever.
