American Actress Sissy Spacek Has Been Married For 43 Years To Her Husband, Director Jack Fisk

Date December 18, 2017

Sissy Spacek is an American actress and singer. She started her entertainment career in the early 1970s and made her major breakthrough after playing Carrie White in the Horror movie Carrie (1976). This role earned her an Oscar nomination, a rare achievement for acts in a horror film.

She went on to receive another five Oscar nominations and earned a Grammy nomination for the 1986 movie Coal Miner's Daughter’s soundtrack, and won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the same movie. Unlike other actresses who bask in the euphoria of Hollywood, she was quite the opposite and was well known for her hardworking and devotion to her family.

Personal life and career

Sissy Spacek (originally born Mary Elizabeth Spacek) on December 25, 1949, in Quitman, Texas, USA embarked on an acting career after she graduated high school. She was inspired by her cousin, Rip Torn who was also an actor. With his help, she relocated to New York and enrolled in Lee Strasberg Institute to learn acting.

She got her nickname ‘Sissy’ from her brothers as they were growing up, and this became her stage name. When she was 17, she lost her brother, Robbie to Leukemia and this greatly affected her, so much that she used it as a tool for inspiration through her acting career. She got her first credited role in the movie Prime Cut (1972).

How she met and fell in love with her husband, Jack Fisk.

The strawberry blonde hair actress met Jack Fisk on the set of Badlands in 1972. He worked as the art director for the movie. The two became lovers in no time, and after two years, they married privately at a small chapel in Santa Monica, California, wearing only jeans and their only witness was Jack’s dog, which signed their wedding license with his paw print.

By Hollywood standard, their love life was ordinary and hidden. The couple went on to collaborate in another seven films. They have been married for 43 years, have two daughters together, Schuyler and Madison, and live on a large farm near Charlottesville, Virginia.

How they managed to keep a low profile.

Having lived in a rural settlement as a child, Sissy Spacek enjoys a reclusive life and the farm suits her. Also, her husband Jack is a very quiet and self-contained person. She works only for a few months and devotes the rest of the year to her family. This way, she avoids the public aspects of her job (interviews, autograph seekers, and photo shoots) which drains her energy.

Like Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber who have been married for 30 years, Sissy Spacek and Jack Fisk continue to keep their real life away from the press. They keep a low profile, and this may be the secret of their long and happy marriage. Sissy continues to work as an actress, but not often.
