Susan Lucci And Helmut Huber's Love Story: A Happy Marriage That Lasts For 47 Years

Date December 13, 2017

Susan Lucci (born on December 23rd, 1946, in Scarsdale, New York) is the American actress, television host, entrepreneur, and author. She is best known for her iconic role of Erica Kane on All My Children, an ABC daytime drama, which aired for 41 years. The New York Times and Los Angeles Time cited the beautiful actress as the highest paid actress in daytime television, earning as much as $1million dollar a year in 1991.

Personal life and career achievements

Susan attended and graduated from Marymount College with a BA degree in Drama in 1968. Between 1970 to 2011, while acting on All My Children, she was nominated 12 times by Daytime Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and she won it once in 1999. Before finally winning the Emmy, she had been mocked by the media. The television series was canceled by ABC in 2011.

Susan Lucci has appeared in a lot of television movies and series. She played the role of Darya Romanoff in TV movie Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (1986), which went on to win her the Emmy and the Golden Globe. In 2005, she got a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2006, she was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

She competed in “Dancing With the Stars” alongside dance partner Tony Dovolani, where they finished 6th in the competition. In February 2012, she appeared in Gloria Estefan's "Hotel Nacional", a music video. The actress also owns a business called The Susan Lucci Collection, which specializes in the production of hair care products, perfumes, lingerie, and skin care.

How she met her husband and stayed married to him for 47 years.

Unlike her iconic character of Erica Kane in All My Children who had 6 divorces under her belt, Susan Lucci is quite the opposite. She has been married to only one person, Austrian businessman Helmut Huber, since 1969.

The couple shares a wonderful love story and manages to remain together for many years. Ironically, Lucci met Huber on her engagement party to another man in her senior year in college. She had been working as a waitress in one of the chains of restaurants where he was the executive chef.

Susan, now 70-years-old, who initially didn’t think she would ever get married, believes some of their marital bliss is due to the acceptance of her public life by her husband. Despite her heavy acting schedule, the couple spends a lot of quality time skiing, playing golf, and traveling together.

She often posts touching pictures of her husband. They have two grown-up children, Liza and Andreas, and have four grandchildren.

How her husband saved her life

In 1969, when the couple just got married, they went on a trip to Tignes Le Lac, France. On this particular skiing exercise, midway up the mountain, Lucci slipped and fell off the lift, then began to slide down with nothing to hold on to. Her Husband Huber, an experienced skier, schussed down below her and managed to stop her fall just in time before she could have fallen thousands of feet off a cliff.

That skiing incident proves that Susan Lucci was lucky to have Helmut Huber as her husband, and that experience could have helped strengthen their love, making them stay happily married after 47 years.
